Move-in Weekend FAQ’s

Parking, Transportation, Traffic Control, Campus Services

Q:        Which department manages Move-in Weekend?

A:        No single department manages move-in weekend.  Move-in weekend is a highly collaborative initiative between many campus departments.  However, the primary departments are:

UNH Police lot closure and parking lot enforcement, traffic control, pedestrian safety, and community policing.

Parking (Campus Service Office) – parking enforcement after daily move-in operations cease, parking permit questions, application and issuance.

Student Life and Housing Office Move-in operations from the curb to the room

Q:        Should I come to campus during move-in weekend?

A:        Over the years, we have developed proven strategies for managing the experience for students and their families.  The process works well thanks to the outstanding cooperation from faculty and staff whose work is less directly related to move-in and accommodate this annual request for patience and flexibility.  Please consider, with the approval of your supervisor, altering your arrival and departure times, or working virtually from an off-campus location, especially on Friday, August 25th.

Q:        Are campus parking lots open?

A:        Most of the campus parking lots will be “CLOSED” for staging to support student move-in operations.  If you have to commute to campus on any of these days, please be aware of conditions that may impact travel and parking (and that could result in cars being towed at the owner’s expense if they are left in parking lots designated as “closed”).

Please anticipate, and be prepared for, last-minute changes and additional directions from the UNH Police who will be supervising parking and traffic during move-in days.  For more information please e-mail or call Chief Paul Dean at:  Paul.Dean@us1788.com or 603-862-1427.
